I create and design my "Woolies" from 100% felted wool. I use 100% wool sweaters and wool clothing that I find in thrift stores. I wash the wool items in hot soapy water and dry them in a hot dryer until they are sufficiently shrunken. The firm and tight felted wool is then cut apart and made into products such as pillows, purses, Christmas stockings, wall hangings, sweater vases, ornaments and tea cozies.
I started doing this craft after reading about it. I have formed my own company called Woolies. I sell my creations at locations that feature handmade products. I am a member of the Center for the Arts in Evergreen and have my Woolies in the Colorado Mountain Art Gallery in Georgetown. I am a member of Foothills Art Center in Golden.
I have always enjoyed working in fiber arts. I have experience in sewing, crochet, knitting, cross-stitch, needlepoint, and quilting. Needle felting is my most recent skill. I make 3D ornaments of sheep, bears, bighorn sheep and buffalo. I incorporate needle-felted designs in some of my other products too.
My profession was in the field of education. I was an elementary classroom teacher and then became a library media specialist. I like combining children's books with some of my products.
